The best a Uni can get [04/Aug/15]

Results from the 2015 major championships have now been included in the Best Results tables for each Club in the Club Directory. BUCS' adoption of mixed gender teams in 2015 mean that mixed and separate gender teams are compared against one another. For sanity/simplicity, I have used the best team placing result, be it male, female or mixed. Having separate gender teams means there are twice as many opportunities to improve on previous bests. Team results from 2015 onwards are denoted by an M or an F, mixed teams (2014 and before) were left as before.

The BUTC and the E-League table rows are not affected in the same way. As a side note, clubs who might be interested in hosting BUTC 2016 should contact UKSAA.

Warwick were the only club to beat (or match) their best ever results in all 4 competitions. The BUTTS league winners did so in some style too, with gold in both men's team BUCS events, BUTC and the E-League. Despite being one of the most consistently good sides of the last 10 years, Warwick had only won 3 UK-wide titles prior to 2015 - now that total is 7. Tom Hall and Luke Rieman completed the first quadruples of the gendered-team era. Nottingham Trent set/matched their best results for the 3 indoor events, with a host more clubs recording two "bests". Oxford's ladies' BUCS team double means the Dark Blues have now won 5 UK-wide titles, all 5 of which have been within the last three years.

Prior to Warwick's 2015 feat, Edinburgh were the only club to win a grand-slam, doing so in 2003, 2007, 2008 and 2010. Despite medalling at both Telford and Lilleshall in 2015, Edinburgh's Last 3 Years column now has no wins in it for the first time as the Scottish club's most recent triumphs were the 2012 E-League and BUCS Outdoors. This is Edinburgh's longest spell without a UK-wide title for 25 years, although their recent record is hardly shabby, with all their 2015 BUCS team finishes inside the top 4.

Hall and Rieman are the 7th and 8th instances of the individual quadruple, a feat possible since 2003. The other six were Matt Nowicki (2003), Jenny Jeppsson (2007, 2008 and 2010), Gregor Schnuer (2008) and Erik Rowbotham (2010) - all for Edinburgh.

In other Club Directory news, during July, there were updates to the pages for Aberdeen, Essex, Derby, Nottingham Trent, Hull and Sunderland, plus the new page for Royal Holloway. So far in August there have also been updates for Huddersfield and Salford.

As the inclusion of 2015's results was more complex than usual, would Clubs please be more vigilant than usual with the Best Results tables as well as contact info. Mistakes are not up there on purpose! Please email UKSAA if there is any out-of-date or otherwise incorrect information on show.

The Calendar page has been updated for the 2015/16 season. Other 2015/16 pages will follow during August.

Addendum 05/Aug/15

Results from the prototype E-League, which ran during seasons 2002/03 and 2003/04, have now been factored in to the Best Results tables. Edinburgh won the event in both years, bringing their total number of E-League titles up to 9. The list of clubs with new (or matching) best ever E-League finishes is as follows: Bangor, Bradford, Cambridge, East Anglia, Edinburgh, Imperial, (Northumbria,) Oxford, (Robert Gordon's,) and York.

Retrospective congratulations to those clubs and apologies for taking 12 years to notice!
