NEUAL, BUTTS Outdoor titles [30/May/13]

NEUAL and BUTTS have both had their outdoor championships with Warwick and Sheffield emerging as the winners.

NEUAL Outdoors was a FITA/Metric round held in York on 11th May, whilst BUTTS Outdoors was a St. George/Albion/Windsor held in Birmingham on 19th May.

In the end, Sheffield and York could only be separated by a single point, with a total score of 3406 enough for Sheffield to win, York on 3405. Mike Smith and Stuart Archer were first and third gents for Sheffield, with 1095 and 1004 respectively. Sigourney Lee scored 966 to top score for York - remarkably she was the only senior female recurve in a total field of nearly 70 archers. Lancaster were third on 3342, not far behind the leaders, with Keele in fourth, just over 3000 points and Liverpool fifth.

In the novice match, Lancaster were top with 2070, with Keele in second on 1986 and Liverpool third on 1624. Gents novice was won convincingly by Christopher Brennan (Keele) on 877, with Richard Williams (Liverpool) second on 780. Top lady novice was Katie Wilhelm (Lancaster) on 755.

Newly crowned E-League champions Warwick kept up their excellent BUTTS form by winning BUTTS Outdoors. Warwick scored 2993, to finish well clear of Loughborough on 2622, with Nottingham Trent finishing a distant third. Thomas Cram (Loughborough) scored 810 to win gents recurve and claim one of 5 All Unis records. Cram's score broke the existing record of 791 shot by Douglas Jardine (Edinburgh) only three weeks previously. Phil Middleton (Loughborough) scored 792, Tom Hall (Warwick) third on 791. Ellie Dyson (Nottingham Trent) won ladies recurve with 792, ahead of 777 from Maddie Meatyard (Warwick). Bethany Farrow (Nottingham Trent) was third.

Warwick were also novice team champions with a team (of 4) score of 2809, with Loughborough second here also, on 2591. Birmingham were third a further 160 behind. Top gent novice was Richard Anderson (Loughborough) on 772 ahead of James Jeffs (Warwick) 750. Nadja Albiez (Nottingham) won ladies novice with Steph Reynolds (Nottingham Trent) second, 746 playing 724.

The other 4 All Unis records to fall were in compound and longbow. Gents Compound in senior (St George) and novice (Albion) both fell to Chris Tombe and Jonathan Cox (both Birmingham). Tombe thumped his winning score from the previous year, 904 to 849. Cox's score of exactly 900 broke a record shot at Lilleshall, 10 years ago. Luke Rieman (Warwick) increased the gents longbow mark from 162 to 194, whilst Katharine Simmons (Loughborough) broke the ladies longbow Windsor record by ten points, with 273.

Neither batch of Outdoor Championship results get included in the respective league tables. The eventual winners of the overall NEUAL title will likely be Keele, Lancaster, Sheffield or York. That is once the results of any/some/all of the outstanding league match results are incorporated. The BUTTS season is now over and Warwick add the Outdoor crown to the Indoor and League titles. As publicised already, target lists for BUCS Outdoors and the H2H Tournament on the Sunday are now available.
