Andrew Callaway (Bournemouth), Emma Downie (Edinburgh), Phil Glover (Loughborough) and Stephanie Crang (Gloucestershire) will represent the UK at the 7th World University Archery Champs in Taiwan in early July.

For Emma Downie, this is her second appearance at these championships after 2006 and is the latest achievement in an extremely successful year. She has made it to the final six, and then to the final four ladies for the three spots available for the UK ladies at the Beijing Olympics - final qualifying on 18th/19th June. There is one travelling reserve, so she is already assured of a seat on the plane. She also won two KO matches at the World Cup round in Turkey, making the last 16 and scoring World Cup points and finished third at the UK Masters event, behind Alison Williamson and Naomi Folkard.

For Andrew Callaway this will be a remarkable fourth British student "cap" equalling Tim Mundon's record. The pair never over-lapped, Mundon's last appearance in 2003, Callaway's first in 2004. The Bournemouth archer has won three individual BUSA titles and wrote a Postcard and some photos from Izmir in 2005 when archery was at the World Uni Summer Games.

The two compounds Phil Glover and Stephanie Crang will both be making their debuts at this competition. Both currently hold the All Unis records for compounds on Portsmouth, both beating marks that had stood for a decade. Phil Glover scored a remarkable 594 to win BUSA Indoors 2008 whilst Stephanie Crang won BUSA Indoors 2007 with 582.

It is slightly disappointing that the UK will not have any representation in the main team of 3 events, but we will have a mixed recurve and a mixed compound team as a mixed team comprises 1 man and 1 woman. Archers from 27 countries will be taking part, including Jenny Jeppsson (Edinburgh) who will be shooting for Sweden for the second time at this event. The timetable is as follows:

Mon 7th - Official Practice and Opening Ceremony

Tue 8th - Qualifying Round - FITA 720

Wed 9th - Individual H2H Matches

Thu 10th - Team and Mixed Team H2H Matches and Closing Ceremony
