BUTTS 3 pointer [28/Nov/18]

BUTTS league match 2 was conducted over the weekends of the 18th and 25th November. Warwick won the senior match very narrowly despite the atttentions of Birmingham, with Loughborough third in a repeat of the BUTTS match 1 podium. Similarly repeating match 1, Birmingham won the novice match ahead of Cambridge.

In the first half of match 2, Nottingham posted a 50+ point improvement on match 1, to score 2211. It was Warwick who set the pace however, with a score of 2297. A week later, Birmingham and Loughborough both did enough to beat the 2211. Birmingham took second on 2294 - how crucial could those three points be at the end of the season? Loughborough took third place again, despite 2267. Oxford were fifth in the match on 2125.

For results and updated tables, see the BUTTS 2018/19 page.

Sherman Ip and William Pike (both Warwick) both scored 583 with a 580 from Eleanor Piper (Birmingham) the highest total in response. Arthur Coveney (Loughborough) scored 576 - from 59 hits - whilst Christopher Avins (Birmingham) and William Croydon (Loughborough) just behind. Three archers scored exactly 570 - Harriet Kemsley (Nottingham), Jamal Rahman (Birmingham) and James Gardner (Warwick) with another three on 569 - Philippa Taylor (Derby), Adam Wozencroft (Loughborough) and Rebekah Tipping (Birmingham). Enrik Nako (Warwick) and Callum Platt (Birmingham) both broke 560 with Platt outside Birmingham's team.

Birmingham again impressed in the novice match, with Cambridge 100 behind, but over 100 clear of third place. Leigh Hewitt and Yang Ma (both Birmingham) were top novices on 523 and 516.

On 17th February, BUTTS held a Non Recurve championship event. There was a team element extracted from the results, the top scoring compound, longbow and barebow. Loughborough won with a team of Ziheng Guo, Georgie Jones and Sophie McKay. Georgie Jones shot 457 to break the first All Unis record of the season in ladies experienced longbow, beating the previous record by 10.

The next BUTTS fixture is also split across two Sundays in January, at Cambridge on 20th and Nottingham Trent on 27th.

Results from SWWU match 2, SEAL match 1 and NEUAL matches E3, W3 and N2, will appear on UKSAA once they are available.
