Easy wins for Imperial, Essex [21/Jan/11]

Just before Christmas, Imperial played host to Essex and Sussex, running in a total of 2205 to be comfortable winners as Essex scored 1962 with Sussex creeping over 1500 in third. Imperial's 2205 was a mere point less than Southampton had managed the week before. Despite a 582 from Michael Judd (Essex), Imperial's greater strength in depth told, with Rhys Coombs on 567 and Ian Connelly on 551.

After the festive period, Essex were in action again, comfortably beating Kent. Brunel were the third team in this match but did not attend. Essex's team total this time was a vastly improved 2191, their top scorer again was Michael Judd on 572 with Lifei Zhang on 553. In response Kent got 1942, but claimed two league points thanks to Brunel's absence.

The two novice matches went broadly the same way as the senior matches, with Imperial's 1410 well clear of Essex, well clear of Sussex in match 1 and in match 2 Essex's 1278 well clear of Kent. Only Imperial and Essex (both times) fielded complete teams of three.

With only three out of twelve possible match results confirmed, the SEAL tables are still forming, although with Essex v London v Reading scheduled for before the end of January, Essex should be clear at the top for a while yet, despite their unpredictable form yielding scores of 2091, 1962 and 2191.

This coming weekend, Napier v Edinburgh v Dundee in SUS has been postponed as Napier are not currently permitted to use their university's newly built venue. This is why BUTC has shifted to being jointly held by Napier and Edinburgh at Edinburgh's sports centre - there will be more about this and BUTC in the next editorial. Reminder that you can download the BUTC entry form. The other fixture scheduled for this weekend is Bradford v Keele v Leeds v Huddersfield in NEUAL.
