Let's get Virtual [06/Nov/23]

With a lull in regional league activity last weekend, a reminder that scores for round 1 of the E-League must be submitted by tomorrow (at time of writing) 7th November. Round 2 of the E-League covers November.

Meanwhile, the Summer Rankings have confirmed their 2023 results. Archers needed to submit 3 standard, Outdoor rounds, of a minimum 6 dozen arrows each. The competition was open to students in 22/23.

Scores were the sum of the lowest 3 handicap scores. As so often last year, Yang Pei (Oxford) and Louisa Piper (Nottingham) were too strong for the rest of the field with scores of 66 and 58. They both successfully defended their Summer Rankings titles from the year before. Behind Pei, Wills Chiu and Chris Woodgate (both Warwick) were next on 86 and 88. Minseok Kim (Southampton), Alex Williams (Bristol) and Samuel Walby (Oxford) completed the leading half dozen gents, all racking up scores under 100. Second spot on the ladies side went to Hannah Evans (Nottingham), ahead of Natasha Homer (Edinburgh), with Evans and Homer 3 points either side of 100. Hollie Murdock (Ulster) pipped Julianna Ostrovska (Royal Holloway) to 4th.

Relatively few other categories has many entries apart from ladies novice recurve, won by Alice Haskell (Leicester). Compound archer Grace Chappell (Arts Bournemouth) had the lowest overall total handicap score of 16, with fellow compound Sam Cartwright (Nottingham) next on 23.

Planning a run at the Summer Rankings in 2024? In previous years, the scoring window has run from 1st April to 31st August.

Elsewhere, SWWU match 1 is being held as a postal. Senior archers had until the end of October, whilst novices - who are shooting a half Portsmouth - have until 15th November. With early results in, Bath look to have secured maximum points. After being absent last year, Cardiff made their SWWU return.
