Dundee go top after SSS 2 [14/Nov/23]

SSS and SWWU have both now had two fixtures, with Aberdeen, St Andrews and Swansea hosting fixtures over the weekend of the 11th November. Also taking place that weekend were the TOUCAN non-recurve match and the Warwick Open Novice Tournament (WONT). Tables for SWWU have not yet been updated as SWWU match 1 was a postal and it is not fully complete. Seniors had until the end of October to record a score, but novices have until the half-way point of November. Those matches will be reviewed once results are confirmed.

Returning to Scotland, Dundee surged to an impressive win in SSS match 2. They rattled in a score of 2245 to win by very nearly 100 points. Co-hosts St Andrews were second on 2149 - an improvement of 244 points on their match 1 total and enough to beat Strathclyde, who were third on 2114. Misha Pavlov and Alex Lai (both Dundee) were the top scorers in the match, with 573 and 567. Behind the top 3, there was a 100 point drop. Fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh were split by only 19 points. UWS took fourth, finishing just the right side of 2000 with 2002, edging out Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Heriot-Watt.

In the novice fixture, Heriot-Watt finished a mere 3 points ahead of Edinburgh for a second consecutive match win. Perhaps surprisingly, the top 3 novices scorers were all barebows, with Thea Frost (Heriot-Watt) on 480 and Ross McGregor (Strathclyde) and Tatiana Ponce de Leon (Edinburgh) in the 470s. Edinburgh won the compound fixture comfortably.

The results mean that in the overall table, Dundee (29) have now overtaken Strathclyde (28) at the top, with St Andrews moving up to third (26). SSS squeezes in a third match before Christmas, split over two weekends at UWS (18th Nov) and Dundee (25th Nov). See the SSS 2023/24 page for results and tables.

At the TOUCAN non-recurve event, there were 28 archers split across various non-recurve divisions. Ilia Sediq (Loughborough) and Ty McWilliams (De Montfort) were top lady and gent barebow with 535 and 502 respectively. At WONT, the top novices were Alfie Toohey and GongJie Cao (both Warwick). Toohey scored 486 and Cao exactly 400.

TOUCAN division 1 has its first regular match split over three weekends at Loughborough (18th Nov), Birmingham (25th Nov) and De Montfort (9th Dec).
